Back to School!

Our big 2nd grader and kindergartner went back to school yesterday!  I was a wreck on Tuesday night, but I held it together for drop off yesterday.  I did get tears in my eyes a few times, but no actual crying in front of the kids!  This summer just felt so short!

We were given this purple posterboard and the big letter A at registration. Our daughter's first family project was to finish out her name, add a photo of her and as many words beginning with the first letter of her name as we could find. I thought hers turned out pretty cute. The rest of her name is in alternating pink and blue letters I had left over from a birthday banner I made for one of their parties.

She drew a picture of herself and her teacher and gave it to her teacher at open house on Monday night. :)

Our daughter's teacher had this little note attached to a ziploc bag with three packages of Smarties candy for each of the kids. I thought that was a cute idea.

We read these two books before bed on Tuesday night. I attempted to read them I should say. I couldn't get through the Llama Llama book without crying, so I had our son finish it.

Backpacks, lunch boxes, thermos water cups (SO excited I found Frozen for our daughter!), and first day of school signs ready to go! Our son got the ducks hanging on his back pack as part of Hoops for Heart last year and had to have them on his back pack again this year. Whatever makes him happy. ;)

First day at their new school! I am so glad they are there together. I love these cute little signs I printed from a blog.

Little sister wanted to be in a picture too of course. She is going to miss her big brother and sister!!

I know we are going to love our son's teacher! She sent a welcome back e-mail to all the parents after the first day. I e-mailed her back and asked how our son did and she said, "He did a great job! He made a few friends and was very outgoing!! I loved our conversations today, what a cool kid!!" I couldn't be happier to hear that. I think each school year he's opening up a little more quickly and I know he will enjoy school so much more that way!

This sweet girl did a great job at drop off! I was worried that one or both of us would be crying. She said her favorite part of the day was 2nd recess and that she made a couple new friends. She said her least favorite part of the day was first recess. She didn't see her teacher and didn't recognize anyone from her class, so she was crying. Talk about breaking her Momma's heart! She played with kids from her class 2nd recess though, so it went much better. :) She said when they are in line, her teacher says "Eyes straight ahead, hands on your hips, and zip zip zip (their mouths)" I think she is going to have such a great year too! Her teacher seems like she will be great with the kids. We love what we know of her so far!

Their school doesn't start until 9:00! Our son started at 7:50 in Kindergarten and 1st, so this seems late to us! We got there really early the first day, so we had time to take a few more pictures.

I snapped a quick picture in front of his locker. I'm so glad he seems to already know his way around the school a little bit.

We got him seated at his desk, gave hugs and made our exit before one or both of us started to cry!

She found her classroom and her locker by herself. I can't believe she is in kindergarten! She is so ready though. She did say she missed me a lot the first day. I am sure she will get in to a routine and will do so well!

Happy and ready to learn! I love her Jelly the Pug dress I bought on zulily. :) We gave her quick hugs and I made it to the hallway before the tears!

The first day went by pretty quickly. My friend Adrienne came over and we went shopping. That was a great distraction. :) We stopped in at this fun little popcorn shop and I bought each of the kids a bag of flavored popcorn. The flavor is yummy but it was really sticky! Thanks for treating me to a belated birthday lemon gelato Adrienne!

I know I did a lot of writing in this post, but I mostly do that for me. I want to remember details of their first day of school!

Back to school picture with my father-in-law's editing ;)

First day of school pictures Preschool to 2nd grade!  He's looking so grown up!

And our sweet girl's first day of school pictures for two years of preschool and for Kindergarten!  She doesn't have that baby face anymore.

First day of school 2013 and 2014 (our daughter obviously wasn't going to school in the 2013 picture)

I found this on Pinterest and loved it!  Looking forward to a great 2014-2015 school year for both our kiddos.  We love them so much!
