First Grade!!

School is back in session around here! We are adjusting to having our son in school full day. I think it is making me appreciate half day kindergarten even more! I'm so thankful for that extra time we had with him last year. The days do seem to go pretty fast but it feels like a part of us is missing having him gone all day. We will get used to it! It is still new.

On to happier things, we had to do an inter school transfer request to keep our son at the same elementary school as last year. We are still in the same corporation, but in the boundaries of a different elementary school where we are renting. We plan to build before the next school year and are pretty sure the new house will be in a different school corporation, so we really wanted to keep him at the same elementary school for this year. I would have hated for him to go to three different elementary schools in his first three years! I was so happy when we got a call saying the transfer request was approved. :)

Off to 1st grade!!

I will probably have him hold a sign each year until he is old enough to say, no more Mom! ;)

It does make me a little sad that this is the first time we have done a first day of school picture in front of a different door. The kids still talk about missing our old house once in a while. (Mom misses it too!)

We were a little bummed to find out there was only one student from his kindergarten class in his 1st grade class this year. He has been sitting with kids from his kindergarten class at lunch though and it sounds like a lot of them are playing freeze tag together at recess. :)

His sister really misses him during the day! She usually asks me before lunch if it is time to go pick him up yet. This summer they started to play more together and get along well rather than spending most of their time fighting. ;)

His "posed for a picture" smile ;) You really have to catch him laughing or smiling to get a true smile from him! I was acting pretty silly to try to get him to laugh as I took his picture.

He bought his lunch the first two days. I wasn't sure how it would go. He usually eats kind of slowly and I know they don't get very long to eat at school. He said he ate the main dish and drank his milk but didn't have time for anything else both days. I wasn't surprised by that!

I asked him which picture I should post to Facebook and he said this was his favorite. ;) I think I would have picked this one too.

First day of Kindergarten and first day of 1st grade!

His sisters still do a lot of pestering, but they love their big brother so much! They had to be in a picture with him, even in their pajama's. I could have at least had them in cute pajama's! ;)

I love these 3 so much! ♥
(I was having fun editing with my new app, A Beautiful Mess)

We are so very proud of our 1st grader! He is such a kind boy, a good friend, and a great big brother!  He follows the rules and expects others to do the same. ;)  We are looking forward to a great school year for him! It is hard having him in school all day, but we know he will learn so much and make great memories with his friends at school.  He is still a little shy in new situations and around new people, but once he gets comfortable he really opens up. :)

After his first day, he said school was "great"!  He said his teacher is really nice, he found his locker fine, and he got to be a line leader!  He told me about lunch and recess, and he said he saw his kindergarten teacher as he waited in pick up line.  I was happy to hear that he saw her.  She is so sweet!  He told me a story about his teacher putting green ice cream in a big bowl and pouring green SODA on it.  He is a water and chocolate milk guy.  He will not drink soda, apparently not even with ice cream (which he loves!).  He said he told the teacher, no thanks, that he doesn't like soda.  I'm sure his teacher was not expecting that.  It made me laugh.  I love that boy!  His picky eating can be so frustrating, but he definitely knows what he likes and what he doesn't. ;)

Have a great year in 1st grade sweet boy!  We love you!!!
