Late Summer Zoo Day

There are definite perks to having our son in half day kindergarten. One is that he is done before 11 am so there is still plenty of day left to do something fun with all three kiddos. We decided to go to the zoo today and invited my sister and niece to go with us. We haven't been there in about a month and I thought since the weather was supposed to be sunny and lower 80's it would be a perfect day to go.

I think I have a picture of the kids watching the swamp monkeys on nearly every trip to the zoo this summer. The baby monkeys are so cute!

This is one of my favorite zoo pictures of the summer.  I love it!  And the kiddos behind the maps too!!

We headed to the zoo right from picking this guy up from school.  I had forgotten that for some reason he always likes to take a toy with him to the zoo.  He was pretty upset that I didn't bring him one and wanted to go back home.  That wasn't going to happen so I told him we could run in to Target and he could pick a less than $5 toy.  This train was his choice.  Thank you $2.99 bin!  We've always said no to these before because he has so many Wooden Railway trains so we are trying to stick with one kind.  But $2.99 worked for me today.

All the kids having a snack at the giraffe platform.  The giraffes weren't near the platform today so no feeding them.  We love these Gripz mighty tiny snacks.  I've been buying the variety pack and the kids love them.  Perfect for tiny hands too!

After this part of the zoo we decided to go eat our picnic lunch where my sister spilled yogurt in my baby's hair, so she had a stylin' do for the rest of the day.  Once we got back in to the zoo my guy was running and tripped over Aunt Stacey's foot and got a gash on his elbow.  He seemed to have forgotten all about how much more tough he has been lately because he screamed and cried and carried on.  It was not fun.  I was really ready to leave right then but I had promised we could see the sharks and he could make a zoo penny and he still wanted to so we stayed a little longer.  I of course didn't have my purse with me or any band-aids so I tried to hold a baby wipe on it but I think that was making it burn so he just walked around with an open wound the rest of the time we were there. :/  Yes open wound might be a bit of an exaggeration; I just really hate when any of my precious kiddos get hurt!

Hello Mr. Alligator!

After all the "excitement" of the day I really wasn't sure if the kids even had fun.  It's no easy task taking all three of them on outings like the zoo so it made me wonder if it is even worth it!  I got a little teary eyed and told the older two I didn't know if they even had fun.  They said they had "lots and lots of fun", even the injured guy.  :)
