On April 26, 2011 my Mom and Step-dad came over to watch the kiddos for me while I went to my ob at 11am for my 38 week appointment. I had been 1-2 centimeters dilated and 50% effaced the week before and this week my doctor said I was 3-4 cm. She had told me she was on call that night so she would go ahead and induce me if I wanted to pack my bags and come in that night. I was early with both my other babies so I told her I would rather just wait until our little peanut was ready to come on her own. Besides that, our house was hit by lighting the Friday before and we had appointments with the insurance adjuster, electrician, and Direct TV scheduled for the following day. After the doctor, I ran to get groceries because shopping goes so much more quickly without the little ones. When I got home about 2pm, I told my Mom I just wasn't feeling "normal" but I was sure I was fine and for them to go ahead and go home.

After they left I still wasn't feeling quite right and started having some pain. I think it was between 3 and 4pm that I sent my husband a text to make sure he was coming right home after work. I felt what I was pretty sure were contractions starting about 4pm but they were about 15 minutes apart. I was happy to see my husband when he got home from work and let my Mom and Step-dad know we would most likely be needing them that night. The contractions were still pretty far apart so I went ahead and made chicken roll-ups for dinner and fed the kids. I tried to eat too but I couldn't eat much.

I just walked around the house when I was feeling pain and we started timing the contractions. They were at least 10-12 minutes apart for a few hours and then suddenly increased to 5 minutes or less. I sent my Mom a text to make sure they were on their way after my nephew's school program and by the time they arrived I was more than ready to head to the hospital. All the nurses and my doctor had said to go to the hospital the minute I felt my first contraction because of how quick my labor had been with my first two but I didn't feel like that was necessary when the contractions were so far apart. When they suddenly jumped to five minutes or less though, I got a little nervous. I had even texted my brother who lives about 15 minutes away to see if he could be our back-up in case we needed to leave for the hospital before my Mom and Step-dad could get there. We had the kids ready with shoes and jackets on and Trunkis packed and by the door when they arrived!

I can't remember the exact time we got to the hospital. I think it was a few minutes before 10pm. We got checked in by the twin sister of the best friend of our long-time baby-sitter growing up (does that make any sense?) and waited in triage for what seemed like forever to make sure I was in labor. I had no doubt and let the nurse know when they checked me that with my second baby I was already fully dilated. This time if I am remembering right I was 8 or 9 centimeters but they called the on call doctor, which was of course my OB, and told her she would be needed shortly. They offered me an epidural but said I was too far along for any other, lesser, pain medications. I was hoping that this labor would be quick like my other two, especially being so far dilated so I opted for no epidural. I was already feeling like I wanted to push before the doctor arrived. I was so happy to see her and even more happy when our precious girl came in to the world after just a few pushes!

Our beautiful second daughter was born at 10:46pm. She weighed just over 6 pounds so she felt tiny compared to her older brother and sister who were both born at closer to 8 pounds! My doctor teased that apparently our baby was not working around our schedule since she decided to come that night when I had told her at my appointment earlier that day that it wouldn't be the best timing with all our appointments the next day. We are blessed beyond measure by the newest addition to our little family!!
