Fall Ball

Our son participated in the fall session of k-2 basketball at his school this year. He's only played tee ball and coach pitch baseball in the past, so this was a new experience for him. I left it up to him if he wanted to play or not, and I'm so happy he did! He has a lot to learn about basketball, but he had fun at every game and I feel like it was a great experience for him. It was for one hour one night a week and they practiced as a team for the first half an hour then had a game the second half. The focus was mainly on the fundamentals of the game, which was nice for a kid who has never really played basketball. He is excited to sign up for the winter session in a few weeks!

It was a challenge to get a picture that was not blurry with my camera phone when the kids are almost always moving!

He kept his hands in the air most of the game every week. He was always ready to guard. ;)

I loved seeing him having fun with the other kids, even if he still has a lot to learn about the game. What a great way for him to learn!

Sadly I couldn't tell you if he is on offense or defense at this point. His Mom might have a few things to learn about the game too. ;)

In line during the practice half of the hour.

Fun at his last game of the fall session

I don't think he really liked having the ball.  He still needs a lot of practice dribbling and he didn't want to do much of it during the games.  One of his friends from his 1st grade class this year is guarding him in the above picture. :)

Our baller ;)

We were happy he ended up on the same team as his good friend (my friend Sarah's son) and also a girl from his kindergarten class. I wish I would have taken a picture of the two boys together.  His little sisters had fun coming to his games and watching their big brother and his friend play (when they weren't playing with other younger kids at the games or using the bleachers as a place to practice gymnastics). ;) His baby sister was very sad to have to miss the last game.  She has bronchiolitis and was running a fever so she stayed home with Daddy.  So proud of him for trying something new and having a great time doing it! Thanks to Grandpa, Grandma and his uncles for coming to watch and support him too.  Our sweet nephew is telling people he wants to play basketball like his cousin after watching a game.  :)
