Environmental Center Field Trip

I was happy to be able to go on a field trip with my first grader to an environmental center today. Let me just say, it is not easy to do things like this with two younger girls. My step-dad was nice enough to keep our 2 year old for the day, and my friend Sarah took our 4 year old to preschool and then my step-dad picked her up and kept both the girls until we were done with the field trip. I appreciate all the help and support of family and amazing friends so I can do things like this with my sweet guy.

The weather didn't look promising for an outdoor field trip, but it only rained for a few minutes at the end of the day! The kids in our sons class were split in to two groups. Our group learned how to "make" corn muffins first. The volunteer at the environmental center that led our group of kids for the day was really good with them.  Our son did not want to try the corn muffins that they already had made for the kids to try at the end of the demonstration, but I encouraged him to take a bite and he liked it. :)

Another one of the stations was wood toys from the old days. The volunteer showed the kids how to spin the tops and demonstrated several other toys before letting the kids try them out.

I would say that their favorite "toy" was the "arrow" made from corn cobs and a feather. They threw them at a bucket.

And then they got to throw them at their volunteer! ;)

Wagon ride after lunch. This boy is the only student that was in our son's kindergarten class last year that is in his first grade class. They seem to be pretty good friends this year.

It was a fun day and I was so glad to be able to spend it with our big guy. He is growing up so fast! All the kids seemed to really enjoy the field trip and it was nice getting to know some of the kids in our son's first grade class. :)
