Fracture?!

Our sweet 19 month old had a rough day on Saturday the 10th. We were playing Trouble with the older kids in the living room before bed and she was just exploring and fell. She is normally such a tough girl. She will bonk her head or fall and just say "oww". This time she froze for a minute and looked like she was in pain. She wasn't using her left arm, so we called the on call doctor at our pediatrician's office.

They assured us that even if it was fractured it could wait until Monday to get an x-ray. I called our pediatrician first thing Monday morning and she wanted to see her of course. She found that she had the start of her first ear infection, which would explain the crankiness at our family pictures on Saturday afternoon. She said she couldn't tell anything without an x-ray so we went to the hospital to get it x-rayed. She had a distal radius fracture in her left arm. The doctor wanted to put it in a full cast to give her more protection as it healed, so she got a glittery pink cast.  I was so thankful that my amazingly sweet friend Adrienne didn't mind coming to stay with the older two kids on her day off while I took her to the doctor and then to get her x-ray!  Thanks Ade! :)

Sweet girl waiting for the doctor

So sad for my baby girl! :/

Someone was happy to join Daddy and Mommy on date night

These cheddar biscuits are delish!

I think she was fascinated by all the people and the noise of a hockey game.

Not much sleeping going on here!

It is cast off day!  We were so thankful at her first follow up appointment that the x-ray showed her arm was completely healed.  She had to wear the cast for two weeks.  There were times she would try to pull on it and you could tell it was bothering her but for the most part she handled it extremely well.  She did club all of us with it once or twice!

Who knew stickers could make them so happy?  The staff who took her cast off said that the noise from the saw might bother her, but she didn't seem to mind.  She sat perfectly still while he cut it off.  Her arm was obviously extremely itchy where the cast was, but we are so glad to have the cast off and our baby girl back to her happy self!!
