Washington DC

I spent the last four days in Washington DC for National conference for work. Adrienne and I flew out Saturday morning and came back this morning. The conference was mainly Sunday and Monday and we did a little site seeing in the evenings. We had a great time. DC is full of so many people from such a huge variety of places around the world. We are both mommys of boys, and we missed them so very much but it was also nice to have a little "mommy vacation" too. I'm so happy to be home though! I sure did miss the two men in my life!

It was Adrienne's first time flying, so I thought, how can I make it memorable for her? We got to Detroit two hours early, like you are supposed to, so we had a cocktail or two then waited by the gate. Problem was, it was the wrong gate, which we realized about five minutes after our flight left. Talk about memorable! Lucky for us, they got us on the next flight so we only had to wait another hour. Typical me! We stayed in an unbelievably enormous hotel called the Omni Shoreham. It was a beautiful hotel, but what good is a nice hotel when you can't even get free breakfast. Ha! We went to some great workshops, heard Alma Powell speak, heard some statistics that remind us of how important the work we do really is, we rode the "metro" (which is an experience with the world's largest escalator to get you to the train!),

went to Hard Rock Cafe, and did a little site seeing at night with our board vice-president, Margo, and her husband. We had a pretty big group for our little program. A total of five volunteers, two staff, and Margo (the board vice-president) and her husband and their granddaughter. Adrienne and I are both feeling like very experienced travelers now. Sadly I learned my own lesson about not trusting people too quickly, but I won't go in to that. I've added some pictures because I know you just can't wait to see them! I have the day off tomorrow so I am looking forward to spending all day hanging out with my little guy. :)
